DESCRIPTION                  

An individual selected for this position, will be working as a sub-professional investigative social worker, at the full performance level which involves continuous follow up on student absenteeism from school. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE):

  • Receives and reviews reports of extended and unexplained absences of students from school;
  • Consults with parents who have irregular or unusual attendance patterns;
  • Assists in directing parents to the appropriate resource personnel or agencies when resources outside the school and home are needed;
  • Works in closely coordinated efforts with members of school guidance teams, administrators, nurses and School Psychologists;
  • Keeps case records and provided summaries or written referrals to appropriate agencies;
  • Follows established policies and procedures for referring the case to the Department of Social Welfare for available assistance;
  • Identify the various causes of absenteeism (e.g. economic problems);
  • Assists the Department of Social Welfare in obtaining case reports on problems involving school absenteeism;
  • Prepares and presents before the police and court, cases of chronic violation of school law as it relates to school attendance;
  •  Performs other related work as required;      

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of school law, especially as it relates to school attendance;
  • Considerable knowledge of theory, techniques, and procedures of social case- work;
  • Knowledge of the procedures involved in maintaining accurate records;
  • Ability to exercise patience and deal tactfully with students and parents;
  • Ability to recognize and assemble pertinent information gained from interviews;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with all persons contacted during the course of the work;
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment in carrying out functions of the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of the 12th grade or GED and five (5) progressive years of varied experience in dealing with the public.

DESCRIPTION

This position is that of a Data Manager to oversee the development and use of data systems. He or she will discover efficient ways to organize, store and analyze data with attention to security and confidentiality. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of databases and data analysis procedures. The candidate should be tech-savvy and possess excellent troubleshooting skills. This individual reports to a Director or higher level administrator. Work is reviewed through reports, presentations, or projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

  • Determines data needed to be collected and the appropriate data resources for specific data projects.
  • Formulates, implements, and enforces proper data collection policies and procedures.
  • Trains and educates reporting agencies with data collection tools.
  • Establishes data quality standards and works with reporting agencies to ensure standards are met.
  • Ensures quality data collection techniques are established for reporting agencies.
  • Manages contracts with data collection software vendors.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Education State Exchange Network (EDEN) files are submitted, that errors are corrected, and that files are approved for submission to the EDEN Data Repository.
  • Serve as the SEA contact person for completing the VI data submission plan and ensuring that paper work related to EDEN is completed in a timely manner
  • Ensures data system is operational.
  • Provides access for reporting agencies to submit data.
  • Assists reporting agencies with set-up, testing, and implementation of data collection software.
  • Troubleshoots data submission errors and data error issues.
  • Ensures that all vendor updates are properly installed and rolled out.
  • Performs and documents procedures for data preparation, including data cleaning, standardization and analysis.
  • Develops data collection and evaluation methodologies, including format, design, project criteria and requirements, data compilation, relevancy and usage.
  • Develops and implements evaluation methodology related to various data programs to determine completeness and adequacy of the data collection procedure.
  • Understands and ensures privacy law and standards.
  • Evaluates current systems to improve operations.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual data reports for distribution.
  • Develops ad-hoc reports as necessary.
  • Presents data at conferences and meetings where needed.
  • Develops and maintains a public access or limited access data research portal.
  • Shares data with other State and Federal agencies, as needed.
  • Assists district with data collection requirements.
  • Integrates Data with the Virgin Islands Visual Data System (VIVIS).
  • Consults with staff on data coding problems and assists in developing means to correct the problems.
  • Foster relationships with other state agencies that have interest in Education data (i.e. Department of Human Service, Department of Labor and University of the Virgin Islands).
  • Attend and participate in related Data Meetings around the state/nation (NCES Forum & Summer Data Conference, CCSSO National Conference on Student Assessment, EDFacts Meeting, and SLDS Best Practices Conference).
  • Participate in local meetings (i.e. School District Meetings and District Education Expo).
  • Provides on-going consultation and technical assistance.
  • Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of district programs, assessments, and data collection procedures;
  • Knowledge of VIDE policies, regulations, and standard operating procedures;
  • Knowledge of structured analysis, design and programming techniques in order to design structures, program modules and write code in conformance with required computer service techniques;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Basic, C++, or Data base systems designs;
  • Sound organizational and planning skills with a solid attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, coordinate, and execute on the details;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and participate in multiple, concurrent projects;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, facilitate groups and meetings;
  • Effective communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills;
  • High level of critical thinking and reasoning skills;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with courses in mathematics, statistics, computer application or courses supplemented by successful completion of systems and database design and analysis, and one (1) year work experience in system design knowledge and analysis of two (2) programming languages, one of which must be applicable to the agency assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE):

  • Conducts reviews of program operations at any of the following:  District School Lunch Offices; Child Care centers; summer feeding sponsors; charitable institutions; and recipients of federal donated foods;
  • Prepare written reports detailing review findings and recommendations corrective action for noted deficiencies where needed to implement policy or meet federal requirements;
  • Provides technical assistance to program operators and recipients;
  • Prepares and conducts training sessions for program operators or recipients to improve program results;
  • Interprets new federal policy contained in legislation; regulations and other guidance materials and disseminates guidance to participating program operators or recipients to implement such policies;
  • Confers with federal officials conducting reviews and audits concerning all aspects of program operations;
  • Inform program operators and recipients about pertinent information needed to insure positive program results ( e.g., commodity entitlements; reimbursement; rates for meals served; receipt of grant award, etc).

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic nutrition;
  • Knowledge of principles of administration and supervision;
  • Ability to speak in public;
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and regulations;

Education and Experience

Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in any of the following:

Food and Nutrition; Home Economics; Food Service Management; Health

Education; Business Administration  or;  Associate degree in any of the above and a minimum of two (2) years experience

in food service related position; or certificates and a minimum of five (5) year’s

experience in food service related position.

DESCRIPTION

Work in this class involves unskilled miscellaneous tasks in the food service department of a school.  It involves the performance of a variety of tasks including some of a custodial or laboring nature, although primary emphasis is on food service activities. Work requires the maintenance of a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation. Duties may be learned on the job without the need of prior experience. Work does not normally include responsibility for cooking, but for very simple food preparation, such as preparing salads and for caring for the kitchen, pantries, and dining room.  Work follows a set schedule and is performed under close supervision of a dietitian, food service supervisor or cook.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

• Assists cooks in washing, peeling and preparing fruits and vegetables, cleaning, dressing, and cutting up fish and meats;

• Cuts, slices and butters bread, makes sandwiches, and assists in setting up trays and dishing out food;

• Prepares cereals, toast, coffee, salads and other simple menu items;

• Obtains meats and other refrigerated food items from cold storage, weigh and measure other food items to be used;

• Sweeps and mop pantry, kitchen, dining room, and other floors as required;

• Cleans tables, chairs, and floors in the dining room and kitchen; washes food utensils and dishes; and cleans equipment such as ranges, counters, and meat blocks;

• Serves meals to school children;

• Collects soiled dishes, utensils, and trays, and return them to the kitchen;

• Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES

• Some knowledge of the preparation and service of food as well as the use and care of dishes, and kitchen utensils.

• Some knowledge of sanitary methods to be used in food preparation and related food service activities.

• Ability to perform simple mathematical computations, calculations and measurements.

DESCRIPTION

This is responsible work which involves the maintenance of a safe and orderly environment. Work also involves the responsibility for reducing incidents of disorderly behavior on the school grounds and to discourage disruption of school business, programs, and other activities by students and/or non-students.  The employee is required to use good judgment while enforcing rules and regulations in accordance with established guidelines.  Supervision is received from the school’s Principal and/or designee through periodic inspections, review and analysis of reports submitted.

DUTIES AND RESPOSNIBILITES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)

• Check all students and visitors for passes while on school premises;

• Prepares a daily incident report;

• Reports any student and/or non-student who are caught in the act of gambling, smoking, fighting, or any other behavior deemed unacceptable, to the Principal and/or designee, for appropriate action;

• Ensures that students adhere to established laws, rules, and regulations;

• Establishes effective rapport with students, parents, and staff that will result in the reduction and/or prevention of activities that seems to hamper the teaching and learning process;

• Reports all incidents, which require police assistance to appropriate personnel;

• Performs other related work as required.

KNOWELEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
